The ceremony was held in the historical village of Bafut with a traditional celebration of dancing, singing, and food. Wes Madiko was also honored along with Zahra for their upcoming song singing the joys of coming together for peaceful celebration. Living up to the royal title, Zahra will be working to expose the rich history and culture of Bafut as an example of an African community with living heritage. “I am so honored,” Zahra says, “to have been given this title and I want to take this opportunity to expose many aspects of African culture and how it relates to the rest of the world. The history of slavery, for example, is seen here and this is a direct impact on the history of Europe and the US… We are all connected and an open and tangible discussion about culture and history is the foundation for a peaceful and progressive society.” Zahra is currently working on projects in Africa to promote peace while focusing on specific regional problems such as health and education among women and children. These projects will be assessed on a global scale to bring harmony and understanding between children of local American communities and African communities. |
